Steal Magnolias August 10, 2013
Welcome to the Movie Rewrite of Steel Magnolia’s. Before reading, please take notice of the visual solution to the Rewrite. Picture by Vanessa Martinez. Despite the tragic ending, the movie was filled with Southern charm and wit. There was a lot of love with this family and yes, plenty of dysfunction. Anytime I see Sally Field, I always remember what an incredible actress she is. From Sybil to Norma Ray to Steal Magnolia’s, she is so intense. The whole cast is great but Sally, in my eyes, is untouchable.
Rewrite begins. As many of you have seen in our last 15 or so Rewrites, we usually change the end and take the story into several other directions and then connect them all at the end. While this was a great movie on all counts, one simple sensible twist would have kept everything intact with a strong future ahead of them all.
It’s similar to when a group of firemen are trying to get somebody out from under a car and can’t seem to figure it out. Then a five year old child walks by and sees the solution as clear as day.
So without our usual imaginative twists, let’s use the solution of a child. It was made very clear to Julia Roberts with her health complications, the risk in having a baby on her own. Sally Field, Julia’s mother, made it very clear and was adamant about it, as were her doctors and many others.
Fortunately, Sally Field being the powerhouse she is, was very close with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or better known as “Brangelina.” As we know Brangelina has been very involved with hurricane relief efforts in Louisiana and happened to be in town during this pertinent time with Shelby ( Julia Roberts ). Sally Field invited the Pitt’s over for lunch one afternoon hoping they can talk some sense into Julia Roberts about having a baby.
They told Julia, have a baby is a miracle, nobody can ever argue otherwise. But when these kinds of risks are involved, once must consider other options. Adopting a baby is also a miracle. It’s a beautiful addition to a family and saves a child’s life. We call that a win win. Oh and don’t forget the third win, being this option saves Julia’s (Shelby’s) life, the family avoids heartache and devastation. We call that a, win win win.
The End. Move still would have been great.

Bless the Beast and the Children August 9, 2013
Goodnight everybody. As this week comes to a close, let us all take a breath. Relax and enjoy your free time with the people who make you most happy. Make this time count and have gratitude for every day that you are given in this life. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
Prayers going out tonight for all of the animals all over this world that are being abused, abandoned and murdered every day. These precious angels are being extinguished without hesitation by the hands of those who don’t value life. God’s most precious angels are suffering unimaginable atrocities. They are being executed, but have committed no crime. It’s hard to fathom a human being that could look into the eyes of an innocent animal and go on to inflict pain upon them. How can these people possibly have a heart? How can these people possibly sleep at night? They must have no conscience. None at all.
It’s not something that we can ever possibly understand as animal lovers. We know very well that we have been gifted with these earthly angels. We know very well that they should be treasured beyond measure. What could be more beautiful than the love of our four legged babies? What other living creature on earth can match their unconditional love and devotion? Let us send thanks to God for them, for we have been blessed by God to have them.
Many years ago, a beautiful song was sung by Karen Carpenter, called “Bless The Beast And The Children.” This song is a prayer for the innocent and defenseless beings on earth and it has always been one of my favorites. I’d like to share the lyrics with you if you haven’t heard them. They are very moving and I think best describe what we all want for these precious beings.
Here is the link to the song. It’s such a beautiful song. Please take a moment to listen to it if you can.
And here are the lyrics…
~Bless The Beast And The Children-
Bless the beasts and the children
For in this world they have no voice
They have no choice
Bless the beasts and the children
For the world can never be
The world they see
Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
Give them love
Let it shine all around them
Bless the beasts and the children
Give them shelter from the storm
Keep them safe
Keep them warm
Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
Give them love
Let it shine all around them
Bless the beasts and the children
Give them shelter from the storm
Keep them safe
Keep them warm
The children
The children
The children
This is what we all want for these angels. We ask God to bless them always and to keep them safe.
Small adjustments to our diet and wardrobes and the products that we use, can mean the difference between life and death for millions of innocent animals. Let us do our best to make these adjustments for them for all that they give to us. Let us try to save as many lives as possible.
No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Amen.

[pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”30%”] Happy Friday friends. Sammy has brought you a visual boost to lift your spirits. He learned this from Dr. Harp Seal. So, in the picture we have a combination of colorful flowers, with a very tranquil background, and Sammy as the face for the post. It makes me think of The Beach Boys when they sang Kokomo in 1988; ♫♫♫ Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya to Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama, Key Largo, Montego baby why don’t we go to a place called Kokomo ♫♫♫
TGIF, don’t forget tomorrow is TGIS, Movie Rewrite Night at 7:15 PM right here on Facebook. [/pullquote]
Bullies are always the weakest people of all August 8, 2013
Goodnight dear friends and family. It’s Thursday night. That means only one more day for working and other weekly obligations. The weekend is almost here. We hope you’ll be able to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather because soon it will be gone.
It’s back to school in just a few more weeks. This can be a very exciting time for children, as they enter a new grade and sometimes a new school. But it can also be a very scary time.
Bullying still remains one of the largest problems for school aged children. No matter how old the child is, they are at risk for bullying. It’s very important for you to teach your children about bullies and about the consequences of bullying on a person’s spirit. Most importantly, it is important to teach your child that bullies are always the weakest people of all. Make sure your child knows very well that it is never okay to bully someone else. Instill in your child a sense of pride and accomplishment for being kind to others. Reward your child for compassion and gentleness.
Even if your child is not being bullied but they see someone else being bullied, they should never remain silent. Tell your child to go right to the administration of the school and say something, even if it is anonymously. Tell your child how proud you are of them, when they take part in stopping a bully.
Every year bullying leads to depression, isolation and sometimes suicide. The introduction of the Internet has taken bullying to an all time high. This type of bullying, is known as “Cyber bullying.” Cyber bullying has made it easier for the bully to access the psyche, even after school. Make sure you monitor your child’s activity on the Internet. Encourage your child to always feel free to talk to you about anything. A lot of times, children being bullied will not tell their parents what’s going on at school. This can leave the child feeling more isolated, powerless and even hopeless.
Although many schools now have anti -bullying campaigns, it is still not enough to protect your child. Bullies usually do their “work” when no supervision is around. Hallways in between classes and recess can be the most vulnerable moments for your child. This is why it is so important to teach our children when they are very young that it is never “cool” to hurt someone else, either physically or emotionally.
As my father taught me so many years ago, never ever back down to a bully. It’s amazing that as we grow, you can always find a bully at any age and in any circumstances including the work place. No matter when or where, the rule still stands that you should never back down to a bully. The bully is weak and it makes them feel stronger to tear someone else down. A lot of times, bullies will pick on a person they are jealous of for one reason or another. Bullies are at the core, very unhappy people. Bullies feel powerless in their own lives and seek the power that they don’t have by making another person feel badly about themselves.
A lot of schools boast a “zero tolerance for bullies,” but there are some things that schools will never know or be able to control. I believe that schools should have hallway and recess monitors, specifically to target bullying. There should not be one moment of the day where a bully believes that they are not being watched.
When a child is caught bullying, there should be serious consequences. The more we teach tolerance and the more we teach our children that we are all created equal, the less bullying will take place. Learning to be a bully usually starts at home. Let us make it end at home, as well. No bullying ever, under any circumstance. Explain to your children how important it is to always treat everyone fairly and justly. Explain to them how much strength it takes and how much strength it shows to stand for what is right even if a whole crowd of people is doing the opposite. Even if they stand alone.
Prayers are being sent out tonight, as always, for the sweetest and most gentle creatures on earth, the animals. We can learn so much from animals. Animals are not tainted by hatred, intolerance or judgement. They love unconditionally. They love with complete devotion. They are a gift to us and that is precisely how they should be treated. Sadly, this is not the case with most animals.
All over the globe, these earthly angels are being tortured and murdered, living as prisoners, unloved and unwanted. No living being should ever be treated this way. Have no doubt that God sees all things and he watches over his angels very closely.
Small changes in our diet, wardrobe and the products that we use will mean the difference between life and death for millions and millions of animals. Let us do our very best to save as many lives as possible.
No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Amen.
