Belvedere Castle May 23, 2013

575750_623120294384837_837401350_n Good morning friends. For Throwback Thursday today, we brought you a few tidbits on Belvedere Castle in Central Park.

Belvedere Castle is a historical landmark in Central Park. It was designed in 1865 by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law. Over the castle you can see The Great Lawn, Turtle Pond and the Delacorte Theater, something for everyone. The Castle and Vista Rock are the highest elevation point in all of Central Park.

As you can see Sammy is happy to stand on guard greeting all who come to visit. A shout out to our great friend Ron Lopez who is working at the castle through the summer. This man is a fine New Yorker. Sammy & Ron have a real bond.
Happy Thursday

550282_137865973044396_2091543206_nThis is Billy. I’ve drawn him before and he was in the picture of my first post. He works at Wasteworth Insane Asylum. He is one of the dogs who is supposed to stand by in-case any unstable dog goes off and physically attacks their psychoanalyst while talking to them. He does this very well because of his size and strength. ©

Three pictures today! Bet we haven’t seen that number in a long time, in terms of daily uploads. This will only be for today though.Tomorrow I will be going back to uploading one post a day. Perhaps in the future I will post more than one or two a day regularly? This will most likely be after I finish my animation though.

549817_137457176418609_37179428_nAureliano was Luna’s best friend. He is a pretty noble and honest cat but he can get annoyed and lose interest in something very easily. He himself seems to falsify the stereotype made up by dogs, that all cats are thieves, as he is against stealing. He does seem to have a lot of morals. He also hates cowardice and grows to resent Luna because of it. Both Luna and Aureliano were orphaned kittens when they met each other and they became great friends. Unlike Luna however, Aureliano grew to make even more friends. He did not resent Luna at first but she became very clingy towards him because he was her only friend which, in addition to her cowardice, agitated Aureliano. However Luna only became more dependent on Aureliano to help her when she was in trouble. Aureliano also kind of knew about her crush on him but he simply could not reciprocate similar feelings to her. One day Aureliano had had enough of Luna and scolded her for being a coward. He explained that she wasn’t independent and that she could be very selfish because of her cowardice. He stated that he didn’t want a coward for a friend. Aureliano did feel sad for Luna when she was begging him to stay with her but he felt like it wouldn’t be good for either of them if he stayed with her. Aureliano is the reason Luna set out to be a new cat. Aureliano could also unintentionally be the reason that Luna took up disloyalty. Despite her cowardice and selfishness, she never seemed outright disloyal when she was still friends with Aureliano. However her disloyalty could also come out of fear for her new supposed “friends,” as she believes she could never trust them like she trusted Aureliano. She states numerous times though that she does not like to be a traitor. When she betrays one of her associates, she says to herself “It’s better I betray them before they betray me.” She only says this as a reason to justify her paranoia as well as her disloyalty. Aureliano eventually becomes the leader of a group of cats hoping to create a revolution and take down the dogs who discriminate them. Aureliano’s name means “Golden” in Spanish. ©

408515_137430256421301_797544685_nThis is Alemana, Makani’s childhood friend and the original owner of the “necklace of maluhia.” He was supposed to use the necklace for good and defend the “Cherry-Eye Isles”.Alemana was next in line for being the guardian of his island. It was a tradition in his family, as his ancestors were great and legendary protectors of the Cherry-Eye Isles. They supposedly protected the island from monsters and demonic entities as well as malevolent dogs who wanted to take over the island for greedy purposes. However , the necklace was what helped them protect the island for so long. Unfortunately, young Makani struck him on the head with a rock when he found out about the necklace’s powers, as he wanted it for himself, thinking it would benefit HIM more. Makani had only meant to knock his friend out, but he ended up killing him. Regardless, Makani didn’t know nor just didn’t care about the gravity of the crime he committed. It is because of Alemana’s death that Makani’s mother drives Makani out of their home.

Fortunately, the dangers that the Cherry-Eye Isles had originally faced were long gone leaving the island in momentary peace, or so it seems. There was a huge mental disturbance on the inhabitants of the island. Everyone on the island seemed to become increasingly more paranoid or depressed by the death of the young dog. Many dogs on the island stated that this was the start of a “reign of hellfire with a mixture of depravity and apathy in Canorphia.” These dogs seemed to eerily predict the rise of the Young Bloods pack, as depravity and / or apathy seems to be a trait that pretty much every “Youth” has.  A “Youth” is another word for a young blood pack member. This also heavily applies to the four main dogs. Nashira and Tommy were depraved of any compassion or kindness from their parents, while Makani and Gemini seemed to just have apathy for their own.

Alemana was a very kind, brave and spunky puppy when he was living. He seemed to have gotten wisdom about the world early on because of his position of power. He got along with everybody and seemed to be a lot more mature then his age at times. He also seemed to have very good control of his powers which is why all the inhabitants of the Cherry-Eye Isles put so much trust in him being able to protect them. He could keep very calm under certain situations and was able to focus very well which added to the effectiveness of his use of his powers. Alemana had an all-around “heart of gold.” Alemana was a bulldog and his name translates to “Powerful Man” in Hawaiian. It is mentioned that his family is still living, however they do not make an appearance. They are assumed to still be guarding the island and looking out for wild animals or malevolent dogs, even without the necklace. Alemana, much like Alfred, will only appear in flashbacks. ©

424496_136551066509220_1011845204_nThis is Alfred.I have mentioned him a couple of times in the past. He is the boxer who took in Darlene and made her his assistant. He went into a crazed state of madness as a young teen. In this state he became “bored” and tried to do things that would keep him busy. Destructive things, might I add. First he would start stealing items just to break them. He would want to see how long or quickly it would take to break a certain item. However, this became boring and he went onto the next thing in which he would collect dead bodies and dissect them for debated reasons. Certain dogs think he did that just to get a good idea of a dog’s body so that when he started kidnapping living dogs, he would know where to cut or inject something..Others thiought he wasn’t smart enough to premeditate in such a way  and just did it  because he knew he could and it would keep him busy. For Alfred however, it was a little bit from column “A” and column “B.” He then came to the final conclusion that he would kidnap living dogs and do individual experiments on all of them just to see how they would react to their stimuli. He also wanted to see what they would gradually turn into because of said stimuli. He would write down the results of these experiments and call it his “research.” He found kidnapping puppies to be better for this. Dogs who speculate the crazed boxer’s case believe that he was a sadist. However, Alfred seems to clearly state to Darlene that, “he takes no enjoyment out of what he does; he simply takes interest in it.”.Alfred seems have been a moderate narcissist as he appeared to believe that he could never get caught. He was right for the most part because he was careful. However, he became careless in the end. When Alfred found Darlene, he was going to make her a test subject as well but he believed that he needed an assistant. He also wanted someone to continue his research when he got too old. Darlene became his assistant and because she was young, she didn’t know the harm she was causing the other puppies by contributing.Fortunately though, when Alfred started to make her physically hurt the other puppies for research, she began to have an epiphany as she realized the gravity of the situation. She showed compassion to the test subjects. It is unknown WHY she did as she was an orphan originally. Compassion shouldn’t have been instilled in her because she’d never been shown it before but to Alfreds, surprise, she did. She would try to comfort crying puppies and when in the position of hurting them, she would try to fake it. Alfred quickly caught on and believed she was disturbing the research. If the test subjects were shown compassion, it would ruin the experiment. He wanted to bring up puppies in such an environment where that didn’t exist in order to see what they would turn into. He wanted to see if they were fated to be killers or sociopaths or if they could be something more. He wanted to see which ones were too weak to live and which ones were strong enough to deserve life. He took Darlene and poured a dangerous chemical onto her eyes. He blinded her out of rage but later on this proved to have been a mistake on his part as Darlene couldn’t help him as effectively. Not only this, but Alfred began to feel something he’d never felt before; guilt and remorse. He became more careless as the guilt began to eat him alive. It only took two months after the incident for him to be arrested. Darlene wanted to get even though, so she smuggled a knife into his jail cell and gouged his eyes out, despite his cries for forgiveness. Darlene then went into a catatonic state and was taken away to Wasteworth Insane Asylum. Darlene mentions to Tommy a couple of times that she KNEW he was really sorry and that she could tell when somebody is genuine. Whenever Tommy asks her why she didn’t just leave it at that, she states “How could she?”.Darlene says that being blinded was the worst thing that happened to her as she could never enjoy what every other dog could enjoy. She could never see the faces of her friends again, vibrant colors could never fill her vision again. She states that she wanted to get even with Alfred but overdid it a little, which caused his death. However, she sticks by the fact that she holds no grudge against him in his grave and that if he was still alive, she wouldn’t want any “revenge”. “As long as he is as blind as I am now, I wouldn’t mind.We would be even.” She says.Vlad also states to her that BECAUSE she gouged his eyes out, that she DID have a grudge against him.She always responds with “I had no grudge against him.I only had a grudge against what he did.” Alfred is the only dog that Darlene killed.Alfred was also the only dog that Darlene felt no remorse about harming.Darlene also justifies this by stating that because of what he did to her, she was simply unable to feel remorse for him. ©

Alfred will only be making appearances in flashbacks, if at all.I am going to be uploading briefly mentioned characters now. They had a significant effect on the characters but aren’t particularly main in the series of Young Blood.
