The Four Musketeers

The Four Musketeers

Good evening friends.  We have four special guests leading us out tonight.  These four angels are members of our great friend Jennifer Hoffman Schmitt and Family.

The doggies names are: Bellina (Little brown and white on far left, then Zeus is next to her, then Meiko (both sable poms), then Bentley! They are my loves! Bellina is my only little girl, so she is a spoiled princess and sleeps next to me almost every night!

Prince Zeusy is my handsome gentleman, always has a word to chime in about things, and is quite the old soul. Mr. Meiko is one of my ‘foster failures’ from back in the day. I knew I had to keep him from the moment I met him! He’s a loner who keeps to himself most times, but when he does get feisty I love it!  Someday I hope to get back to fostering, I do miss it. Last but not least is Mr. Bentley, my beautiful Papillion! He is the sweetest little lovebug, and gives kisses for hours!

Each one of them holds a special place in my heart. Sad side note is, I actually used to have eight! Yes, EIGHT! But since my ex and I divorced a few years ago, he now has four and so do I. It was a hard thing to swallow, loosing half my babies! However, the silver lining is that we remain good friends, so I do get to see them from time to time, although it’s not as often as I would like. My stepdaughter and I exchange pictures we take of them all the time, so that is a happy thing!

Sammy & Family thanks Jennifer for being such a great friend to animals.  Look how happy these four dogs are in the picture.  That’s a direct result of Jennifer’s love and care for them.  Jennifer Hoffman Schmitt is truly making the world a better place, many animals at a time.

I also want to credit Jennifer for making Sammy & Family aware of Teddy the Porcupine out of Dallas Texas.  As a result of her heads up I contacted Zooniversity which is where Teddy lives and we are featuring him on The Good News Channel tomorrow morning.  We are very excited about this feature.

Lets close by praying for the well being and safety for all animals around the world. No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Teddy the Porcupine and Zooniverstiy

Good morning friends.

Today we have a very special feature on The Good News Channel. this is “Teddy Bear” the Porcupine. About a week ago i posted on my Facebook wall, that If  I were some type of animal, I probably would be a Porcupine. I made that reference because I always felt porcupines were very sweet and just wanted to be left alone. But if you pester them to much they will spring their quills at you. Point being is my  friend Jennifer commented on my post and said I have to check out Teddy the Porcupine’s Youtube Channel and also  Teddy’s Facebook Page.

Teddy the Porcupine from Zooniversity

Teddy belongs to http://www.zooniversity.org/ out of Dallas Texas.  Zooniversity is a teaching zoo that you can visit or they  come to you servicing  Texas and Surrounding states.  Zooniversity is a private company and was founded in 2001 by zookeeper and wildlife educator Allison Knox Blankenship (in picture above with Teddy).

As a mother of two “animal crazy” children, she saw the need in North Texas for a professional wildlife education service that was fun and educational, yet affordable.  After speaking to Allison on the phone and hearing her passion and enthusiasm towards her animals that she cares for I can see why people from all over the world have come to visit Zooniversity in person.

This video is the property of Zooniversity and Allison Knox Blankenship.  This is one of his main videos that when viral because he is literally talking while he’s munching on those mini pumpkins.  To visit Teddy’s Youtube Channel, here’s link;  https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=teddy+the+porcupine

Teddy is possibly the most well known porcupine on Earth.  His videos on youtube have been viewed more then 17 million times and he has appeared on television many times.  The world became fascinated with Teddy because he literally speaks, especially while he’s eating pumpkins like in the video above.  Now I’m not saying he speaks English, but Teddy is definitely speaking and communicating in some sort of Porcupine language.

Fennec Fox at Zooniversity

This is a Fennec Fox.  Famous for their petite 3-pound frame, huge oversized ears, teensy nose and that luscious fur.  Zooniversity makes a point how sweet they are but don’t even think about having them as a house pet.

Sammy & Family would like to mention to any of our friends in Texas or the surrounding states, Zooniveristy can come to you and give you a fun an educational experience of a lifetime.  Sammy & Family is so impressed with their knowledge and care about wildlife and conservation.  Although Teddy gets the most attention, Zooniversity cares for many different species of wildlife and educates kids and adults near and far.  Click link to contact them; Zooniversity

Ok back to Teddy now.  Teddy is a male and was born my 4th, 2003.  Porcupines that are well taken care of like Teddy can live up to 25 years or more.  At this point he cannot be released back into the wild as he would most likely not survive on his own. He has no fear of humans, dogs or other wildlife and would actually approach them.

Teddy and Zooniversity

Meet Teddy and 50 other species of Animals at;  http://www.zooniversity.org/

Teddy has 35,000 barbed quills underneath all that soft, fluffy guard hair. The quills cover every part of his body, except his face, paws and belly. We don’t often get “quilled,” as we are not a threat to him and he doesn’t feel the need to ward us off. If he did feel threatened, Teddy would first flair his tail hair and show you his quills as a warning. If you didn’t heed his warning, he’d then spin like a top and whack you with his tail full of quills. And yes, that would be very painful if he did that to someone.

Onyx and Amber with Linda Robinson

Onxx and Amber

Good evening friends. Tonight we have Onxx and Amber leading us out.

They are members of our great friend Linda Robinson and Family. Linda is a major friend to the animals. Onyx is on our left and Amber to our right. This is such an inspiring story. Let’s hear from Linda herself.“My husband and I rescued them from our local Humane Society, nearly three years ago. They are sisters, and were about eight months old. They were in the same cage, huddled in a corner, scared to death. We had gone there to get just one dog, but the Humane Society fellow said “someone was interested in the black one.” That sealed the deal for us–there was no way these two should be separated, and we said we will take both of them, right now.

Both Girlies developed kennel cough a few days after we got them home, and Onyx nearly died. But, with lots of love, care and medicine, they both came out of it all right.

As near as we can figure, since they are sisters, their mother had several relationships so to speak.

Onyx has the softer, one coat fur, so we figure she might have some poodle and terrier in her. Amber’s fur is rougher and a double coat, and she is a bit longer-legged and leaner, while Onyx is more roly-poly. Amber is also — how shall I tactfully say this? — more mentally acute than Onyx, and is most often the instigator. Onyx just goes along with stuff, because her sister is doing it. Both are very loving Girlies and our lives are so much richer because we are lucky enough to have them. I am a big fan of rescue dogs, strong spay and neuter laws, and the outlawing of ALL puppy mills, and stern prosecutions of anyone who abuses any animal.

One other thing: if you have old towels or blankets or pillows, your local animal shelter can always use these items. It makes the lives of the dogs and cats in the shelter easier.

Sammy & Family wants to thank Linda Robinson for sharing their story with us. And thank you for that tip about old towels and blankets for dogs and cats living in shelters. Little things like that make a substantial difference in the quality of an animal’s life. Furthermore, thank you Linda for giving two sisters the life they deserve. And once again is poses the question; Who really rescued who ?

God bless all animals around the world. May they all find safety, peace and comfort. Amen. Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Ringo the star from the Philippines

Ringo from the Philippines

Good evening friends.

Tonight we have Ringo leading us out from the Philippines.  Ringo is a member of Augustus Joseph Reyes and Family. Joseph is the nephew of our great friend Jennifer llano.  Jennifer wrote a story once for all us, shes a great writer.

Ringo is two years old and she is one special dog.  Here’s her story;

Name: Ringo Starr Reyes (named after the Beatles’ band member) Her birthday: Feb 28 2013. She has two sisters named Nuggets and Peanut. She was named differently because she was the most orange of all 3 during birth.

Ringo also she grew up the smallest. I love Ringo!!! She’s crazy in a good way. She always wants attention especially if you are petting another dog. What she usually does is she’ll go in between you and the other pet you are petting just so you could pet her, too. It’s hard to get ready for school in the morning as she licks and pushes my hands away when I put on my socks. She knows how to facetime. She tilts her neck when she sees me on the phone screen then she tilts her neck and barks when I say hello.

This usually happens when I’m away and she stays with my girlfriend (my girlfriend gave me Ringo as a birthday gift a couple of years ago.) She’s our baby. We usually bring her with her baby diapers with us during our dates. Ringo sleeps with me in my room with her own bed placed on the floor. Sometimes she wakes me up in the morning (when it’s too late!) She barks when someone is knocking on my door and usually she barks at the person knocking because she knows that the person has just woken me up…

She’s a very protective dog even at her small size. Even the little things that bother me…she makes sure I am safe. She always does protect me! I just love her!!! She’s my true best friend even though we don’t understand in words through conversations; in our hearts we do understand each other. She really is a Man’s best friend. No dog will ever replace her.

Wow, what a great story about Ringo.  Couldn’t have written that any better myself.  Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 121, Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.
