Saturday’s are so promising

Saturday's are so promising

Good morning friends.

Happy Saturday everyone.  Thank God the weekend is here.  As you can see the bed can get very crowded.  This picture does Not include Patrick, Vanessa or myself, but somehow everyone finds a comfortable spot so we can all be together.  As time moves on we learn the little things are the big things.

That’s another class i slept through.  But as they say; “Better late than never” — We don’t need to bring a storm to our lives to make it exciting.

OK friends, lets kick this day with two Positive Notions;

1. The word “Dog” spelled backwards is “God”  — That’s not to say God is a dog, but it is to say dogs are Godly.

2. If you remember in the original movie “Superman” with Christopher Reeves, when he was flying in the reverse direction to rewind time so he can save Lois Lane, it poses the question; “If we walk or jog in reverse, can we become younger again?”   Something to think about.

Day 301 here in Puerto Rico.  See you tonight friends.

Goodnight from Sammy & Family on November 6th, 2015

Vane and Scott 3

Goodnight dear friends and family.

This is Jessica Lee Smith writing to you tonight. Happy Friday night to all of you. Before i get into my message, please try not to be distracted by my brother’s bedroom eyes.  It’s caused him a great deal of trouble in his life.  He is wearing glasses to detour some of the allure.  Thank you Scott, that is very gracious of you.

If you’re going out tonight, be sure to stay safe out there. Always stay aware of your surroundings. Never leave your drink unattended, and please never ever drink and drive. Also, it’s always better to travel in “packs”. It’s safer to walk down the street with at least one other person, if not more.

If you’re staying in tonight, rest well. It’s been a long week. I hope you have a wonderful evening with your loved ones, two legged and four. Spend this weekend doing what you enjoy most, and try to take in some of this magnificent scenery we are surrounded by.

Thank you all so much for the support, love and encouragement that you’ve shown my brother, myself, and my whole family. It means more to us  than you could ever know. We love you all. You’re such a blessing to us.

Have a great night everyone.

No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed. Amen.

Love from,
Jessica Lee Smith,
For Sammy & Family

Day 300 in Puerto Rico

Day 300 in Puerto Rico

Good morning friends.

Day 300 here in Puerto Rico.  I’m very happy to share these benchmarks with Jeffrey.  Said another way, I’ve known Jeffrey for 300 days.

I can say with complete confidence that when my family and I stayed at the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico 36 years ago, I never thought I would actually live here permanently.  I guess its like the slogan says; “You just never know”

OK, lets kick this Friday off with two Positive Notions.

1. It’s Friday, that in itself is a win. Even if you feel your life sucks, doesn’t it suck just a little less today?  Remember, #GlassHalfFull and #GiveTodayAChance.

Now for number 2, I have to go listen to a Barry Manilow so i can come up with a really good notion. Be right back.

2. “Aim beyond the clouds and rise above the crowds and start you own parade”.  — I Made It Through the Rain —  Barry Manilow —

See you tonight Friends.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

A personal message from Scott Smith and Dr. Harp Seal

A personal message from Scott Smith on Gratitude

Good evening friends.

It’s great to be alive on November 5th, 2015.  Good, bad or indifferent, today is a gift.  Many people that were here yesterday are no longer with us.  We have to remember that.  A lot of people pass on each day that wanted to live.  We owe it to them and ourselves to live this life as best we can.

In recovery I was taught what gratitude means.  Whether you had those kind of problems or not, living a grateful life is an open invitation for all to enjoy.  Again, I used to think that life was a series of losses and then you die. Now I know life is a series of experiences and then you grow.

Had I not gotten into alcohol and substances, I would’ve never gone into recovery and learned what happiness means.  I would have just kept being miserable whether I was sober or not.  The good news is that its not a prerequisite to get into the trouble I did to be free. You don’t have beat the hell out of yourself to realize whats important.

Things can always be better, things can always be worse. The question is; “What am I grateful today?” — Whoever those people were that told me life is better with the glass half full, than half empty, you were dead right.  Nobody needs to give themselves a beat down with alcohol and drugs to understand that. Just accept it as a truth, and a fact from a person who has made more mistakes than 1000 people put together.

Signing off from Puerto Rico on day 299.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

The Little Things

Good morning friends.

Scott Smith here.  I want to quote a line from the movie; “Vanilla Sky”  — Here’s the quote; “Its the little things in life, there’s nothing bigger”.  However, there is something better, sharing the little things in life with loved ones”

Have a great day.

Its a Poppy kind of Evening

Its a Poppy Kind of evening

Good evening friends.

Being that its still Poppy Tuesday, I figured to share the story behind this picture.  Sammy & Family was very focused on showing him as much love as possible.  This was a bottoms up approach.

I remember when Vanessa was taking this picture, what was going through my head.  I was having intense thoughts with the universe about how untouchable Patrick would be for the rest of his life.  It was a declaration that my boy was guaranteed endless love and care, until the very end.  That was two years ago, and those thoughts remain stronger than ever.

There are over 250,000 stray dogs in Puerto Rico alone.  If every one of them was given a home, they could be built up just like Patrick.  All of their lives matter a great deal to Sammy & Family.  Our 5 dogs are no more important than those 250k homeless dogs. They just got luckier.  Life can be so random. Sometimes it seems like its a coin toss if an animal gets a good life or not.

Life is a gift and has incredible attributes to it. From a personal perspective, Dr. Harp Seal cannot feel the full joys of life, without the participation of all animals all over the world. This land is their land, this land is our land, this land is made for them and us.  The fruits of the earth are plentiful enough for every specie to live with safety, freedom and joy.

I have spoken to a gentleman recently who takes people to the ice sheets in Canada, to get up close and personal with Harp Seals.  As you all know I don’t travel, but the harp seals warrant the trip. As soon as I can make that happen, I will be broadcasting the experience to share will all of you. The plight of the Harp Seals inspired much of what Sammy & Family has been doing the past couple of years.

Dr. Harp Seal is a symbol for animal kindness across all species.  “Animal Equality is a tireless journey. There will be no retreat”

No lives will go in vain. No pain will go unnoticed.  Dr. Harp Seal, for Sammy & Family.

Happy Poppy Tuesday on November 3rd, 2015

Poppy Tuesday on November 3rd, 2015

Good morning friends.

Happy Poppy Tuesday.  A day filled with Hope and Possibilities.  Remember, if the Pops can do it, anyone can.  Pops is like the Rocky Balboa of dogs. The point being is the underdog can win.

OK. lets kick this day off with two Positive Notions.

1. Its great to be participating with life on November 3rd, 2015.  We get another shot today.

2. Being our perception is our reality, I perceive happiness.

Have a great day friends.  Day 297 here in Puerto Rico.
