Another quote by Darlene and a simple picture for my return.When Darlene first arrived at “Wasteworth Insane Asylum”, despite being fairly harmless, certain words could “trigger” her.When any dog said these words, she would go off into an extreme mindset of panic.Such an amount of panic that it would cause her to get uncontrollably violent if any dog tried to touch her.This is because of the fact that these words brought back memories and gave her flashbacks of when she was with Alfred.Horrible memories of the tortures she had witnessed as well as the memories of when she lost her sight.This stuff coupled with fear made it so that when Darlene WAS acting violent, she was too far off into her own terror to notice! She was thrown into a padded room for days on end.They didn’t put her in a straight jacket as she didn’t pose a threat to herself..Darlene stated that they kept her in this room for what felt like an eternity.She seemed to get used to the silence and prayed for it to stay.However the doctors of the asylum began to experiment and see what made her go off into these fits.They began to bark various words into a microphone attached to her cell.Whenever she would go crazy because of one of the words, they would underline the word.Darlene openly felt despair from what was happening,the constant fear always lingered.She would occasionally lash out at a wall, if she brushed against one.However, it seems that she believes she was being punished for the sins she had committed in the past.She stated that “because of her sins,the satisfaction of silence was something she didn’t deserve”.However, after the doctors got all of the words that triggered these states, they began to work on them with Darlene.After a while of psychotherapy, Darlene became unafraid of these words.This was one of the things that led to her getting a lot better,psychologically.She says the quote above after she had gotten out of wasteworth and she was mentally stable.A lot of the dogs of the Young Bloods pack, in passing, remark that they hate the silence.Darlene usually overhears these remarks and feels sorry for them, as silence was one of the only things that ever gave her peace.She also seems to state at the end of this quote, that “she is different from the rest,because she understood why she didn’t deserve it”, hinting that other patients of wasteworth were enamored with the silence too, however when that silence was taken away, they would get angry.This part of the statement could also indicate that Darlene believes that they have done something wrong as well and that they just didn’t realize it.However it is slightly unclear.
