Sandy Vander Weele and Weechee

Weeche and Sandy Vander Weele

Written By Sandy Vander Weele

Our story began November 25, 2011 on the way home from the Harbor Springs, Michigan Holiday Tree LightingI was listening to the John Tesh Radio Show.  He started talking about the National Mill Dog Rescue located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the work they do rescuing and rehabilitating commercial breeder dogs from puppy mills.  Being an advocate of animal rescue for many, many years, I found it so gratifying that a group not only did rescues but rehab these poor innocent creatures.  I didn’t even have my coat off and was on my computer to research the organization. NMDR has a tab “adoptable dogs available.”  I looked through all the dogs and this little face (Weechee’s) hit me like a magnet.  Mind you, I had no intention of adopting a dog.  For a few days, I kept going back to the site, looking at Weechee, reading his biography and I was hooked.

NMDR is over 1000 miles from where I live and has a good policy that all dogs fly in cabin.  We scheduled several flights with Pet Airways and all were cancelled by them. My only alternative was to drive there or fly. I flew out from Detroit Metro to Denver Airport to get Weechee leaving, February 5th(Super Bowl Sunday) early in the morning and coming back mid afternoon.  Southwest heard my plight, waived his fee & gave Weechee’s foster, Sara, a gate pass. She didn’t end up coming by herself to the gate but with a whole camera crew who captured our first meeting and interviewed us for over an hour.  They were from TLC Network doing filming for a new series “On the Fly” which is featuring Southwest Airlines.  TALK ABOUT A RED-CARPET SEND-OFF!  The cameraman and mikegentleman came on the plane as I was buckling up and did another 10 minute interview.

Coincidences? 1.  I wasn’t planning to go to the tree lighting and, if I hadn’t, I’d never heard John Tesh talking about NMDR; 2.  According to his foster, Weechee’s picture was put on the NMDR website the very day I looked at the site for the first time and; 3.   By Pet Airways “bad behavior,” I was directed to Southwest who were so kind to us.  Weechee was meant to be here in his Forever Home & I love him more each and every day.

Weechee has his own Facebook page and together our goal is to be ambassadors for animal rescue.  Also would like to have Weechee trained for certification to go to our local care facilities for the elderly.

Here’s his page; https://www.facebook.com/pages/Weechee/357065564330725?ref=hl

Weechee’s foster mom’s (Sara) husband, Lt. Col Eric K., got killed in Iraq by an IED leaving a wife and 4 children. Sara, in her loss, is filling her heart by being a volunteer for National Mill Dog Rescue as a foster. To honor Sara’s husband, I asked to use the name “Eric” as Weechee’s middle name and she and her children were delighted.

Love Is Evolving

Good morning friends.

Being this Saturday is Valentines Day, we figured to take a closer look at love.

Here is what we found;  If you spell “Love” backwards, you get “Evol”   Now lets add “ing”  to “Evol”

After we Net it out, here’s the math; “Love is Evolving”

And with that, let’s use this Valentines week as a springboard to start anew.  A chance to make it right now, or to make it better.   Have a great Monday friends.

Good morning friends.

Kelly has quite the crush on Mr. Patreeko, she always prefers to play with him.  Speaking of Patreeko, tomorrow’s Sunday feature will be an audio on new Patreeko names as the love for him keeps climbing higher.

Super Sammy

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, wait wait, that’s a 10 Pound Pomeranian flying around NYC. Well I’ll be dammed.

Just like the quote from the movie ” City Of Angels” says; “Some things are true whether you believe in them or not”

Looks like we are all going to be OK.  Thanks Super Sammy.

Feeling a a lot of love out here today. Happy Friday.  Picture by Raquel Martinez.

Sheba’s Haven Rescue, Ontario Canada

Sheba's Haven Rescue in Ontario, Canada

Good evening friends.

Tonight we wants to give a Big shout out to Sheba’s Haven Rescue in Ontario Canada.  Our ELS friends, John and Kathi McEwen brought Sheba’s Haven to our attention.  They are monthly donors and after reading up on them, I can see why.

They specialize in Palliative care and Special needs dogs that are unadoptable, elderly and sometimes terminal.  They help elderly dogs live out their days in peace.  It’s run by a couple, Catherine Pokrywa and Bill McCormick.  It was started in 2011 by Catherine.  Since then,  they’ve taken in over 60 dogs into their home.  All of them rescues and mostly all of them in their final stages of life.

Below is a link to their Facebook Page;

Sammy & Family thanks Sheba’s Haven Rescue for making the world a better place, many animals at a time.  It doesn’t get more noble then assisting dogs in their final years with a graceful goodbye.   Sounds a little bit like Heaven to me.

No lives will go in vain, no pain will go unnoticed.  Amen.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Winter Fun On Pilgrim Hill, Central Park

Pilgrim Hill

Good morning friends.

Happy Throwback Thursday.  Here’s a little piece I wrote on Winters on Pilgrim Hill in Central Park.

If you are passionate about skiing or sledding and you live in NYC, most likely you were at Pilgrim Hill today.

Pilgrim Hill is known for having some of the steepest slopes, it’s truly a winter delight. The moment came and went pretty quickly as snow turned to slush by noon. However, this did not sway New Yorkers who are used to moving fast and were going to opportune the limited time they had. People were pretty creative with how they were going have fun and take full advantage of the snow.

Of course the traditional skis and snowboarding we are all accustomed to seeing were out there in full stride. Many though, were flying by on garbage can lids, tubes and toboggan sleds. Always use caution mind you, lots of kids out there. This morning flew by like lightning, if you caught it though, it was worth the early efforts and hopefully there are more snow days to come, well for kids anyway.

Located by entering Central Park, 72nd street on the East side & Fifth Avenue.

Don’t Try To Adjust Your Television, I’m really This Good Looking

Yes, I look that good. Just kidding.

Don’t try to adjust your television, I really do look this good.  Just kidding, but not really.

Howdy friends.

We hope everyone has a nice day today.  Its good to be here with y’all.  So we are looking for somebody to be featured on The Good News Channel this Sunday.  Everyone would much prefer hearing from you rather then me, including myself, lol.  With that said, the attention is always fun.

If you are interested in being featured this Sunday, email me at; smith7024@yahoo.com

So today is day 23 in Puerto Rico, man do i feel calmer.  I guess its because I’m Mr. Mom as i told you.  I will be back in the saddle soon enough, just trying to enjoy it while I can.

Signing off from Puerto Rico.  Dr. Harp Seal for Sammy & Family.

Paranoid

Good morning friends.

Henry has been trying to tell Sammy they are being followed.  Sammy told Henry to stop being Paranoid. So Henry quoted a famous slogan; ” Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you”

Sammy responded; ” Tushay little brother, Tushay”

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you
